How to beat Angel Slayer in Bayonetta

February 12th, 2010

Introduction

Angel Slayer (the lost chapter) is unlocked by finding and completing all of the Alfheim portals in the game.

Angel Slayer consists of 5 verses. Each verse is broken into 10 separate battles. Each battle can consist of many enemies or a single boss fight and in some cases multiple bosses at once. If you are killed at any point in time you are done. There are no continues; you have to start from the beginning.

The first 3 chapters are fairly easy compared to the last 2. Once in verse 4 you lose the ability to trigger witch time off of an evade.

Weapons you will need or find useful

Sharuba
Rodin (unlocked by beating Rodin after acquiring 10,000,000 halos and purchasing the platinum ticket from the Gates of Hell)
Pillow Talk (unlocked by beating Infinite Climax Mode)
Durga (lightning on hands)

Accessories you will need or find useful

Pulley’s Butterfly (a must have)
Star of Dineta (a must have)
Evil Harvest Rosary (very useful once witch time is disabled in verses 4 and 5)
Bracelet of Time (can be useful in verses 4 and 5, but you don’t really need it)

Also note you can’t use the climax bracelet in Angel Slayer.

The Weapon Setup I Used

Slot 1:
Hands: Sharuba
Feet: Durga (fire) (Remember Durga can be switched from lightning/fire by rotating the left joystick and pressing punch or kick depending on if it is located on the hands or feet)

Alternate: Rodin (takes up hands and feet)

Slot 2:
Hands: Pillow Talk
Feet: Kilgore

Alternate: Hands: Durga (lightning)

Accessories:
The majority of the time I used Pulley’s Butterfly and Start of Dineta.

Combos and Strategy

For the first 3 verses you can get by with just the Sharuba + Durga set up. Punch Kick Punch is the combo to use. The third punch extends the blade (hitting multiple enemies) and does massive damage. The trick is to cancel the kick with dodge (known as dodge offset) and execute the third move of the combo in panther form. This is done by doing the punch and then when you press kick to hold it and double tap evade to morph into the panther before the kick is executed. While running around as the panther you are holding kick. When you choose to, you press punch and it executes the third move of the combo. Perfecting this technique will allow you to be more mobile (to avoid getting hit) and can allow you to get the third and most essential move of the combo off quicker. The downside of this technique is that it fills up the magic gauge slowly. The timing takes perfection. You want to press the kick (during the combo) and at any time the kick is being executed you can use the dodge offset. If you get good enough you can do the dodge offset before Bayonetta starts the animation of the kick. If you dodge offset too quickly, the third move of the combo will not trigger.

You will see this technique in action in this video from about 1:00 to 1:07

Another technique is to use Rodin. Jump in the air and rotate the left stick and press punch. This will execute a move that pulls out a french horn (?) and shoots a massive laser while being rotated. This annihilates a massive amount of enemies. It is kind of slow to pull off and makes Bayonneta vulnerable as she is stationary while executing this. It also requires you to be in the air. If you time it correctly, you can get it to execute right as you leave the ground.

Lightning Durga is useful when fighting Golem in the second part of verse 5. There is no witch time and the charge punch attack is useful. Press punch and hold it and it charges a blast. You can get by killing Golem with the other weapons.

Pillow Talk shines the most in the last 2 battles of Verse 5, but is useful on the other boss fights which are at the end of each verse. You can charge pillow talk by holding punch. When it is fully charged it does a very strong attack when you release punch. You can use the dodge offset as well. Hold punch until it is fully charged and then morph into the panther and run around while still holding punch. At any time you can release punch to unleash the very powerful attack.

Using Magic

Pulley’s Butterfly bracelet summons 5 butterflies which can absorb attacks. In a perfect world you would always have butterflies and you would never get hit. This is hard to achieve since the butterflies presence drains your magic. You should always try to have butterflies to avoid losing health. Some attacks (Affinity attacks) will only take away one butterfly. Other attacks (such as getting smacked by Golem’s fist) can take away all your butterflies at once. There is no penalty for losing all your butterflies and then recasting a new set right away. Good butterfly management is very helpful. When you run out of magic, your butterflies die and you are vulnerable.

The bracelet of time, when activated, drains your magic VERY quickly. This is not very strategic as you always want to have butterflies and you cannot cast them if you have a low magic gauge. I only used this on 8th fight of verse 5 (fight with 3 x Gracious).

I did not find torture attacks to be useful at all. They take up too much magic and don’t deal enough damage.

Regaining Health and Magic

At some point you are going to get hit. This is where the Star of Dineta comes in handy. While this is equipped you can regain health by taunting enemies. At the start of each verse is a battle where there are plenty of enemies that are easily taunted. This is helpful because at the end of each verse is a boss fight. If you take heavy damage during a boss fight, at the start of the next verse you can regain all your health. I always killed everything off except one enemy and then just taunted this single enemy to regain my entire health bar. I regained health when I could. While you are taunting, you are also filling up your magic gauge. You can cast butterflies and taunt all day long to regain health and not worry about taking damage.

You have to make sure an enemy is targeted  to regain health (you can use the right button on the xbox to manually target an enemy to taunt).

You cannot regain health off of the bosses (Jeanes and Bayonetta). It’s very difficult to taunt Gracious/Glorious. I wouldn’t even try. Affinity angels are the ideal taunt targets.

Verse 4

As stated early, you lose witch time starting in verse 4. If your health is full, then you don’t need the Star of Dineta. Take it off and equip the Evil Harvest Rosary. Every time you do a late dodge, it will drop a bomb and deal a lot of damage to nearby enemies.

I beat the verse 4 boss fight with just using Sharuba.

Verse 5

Regain your health at the start of Verse 5. The second fight of Verse 5 is against Golem. There is no witch time so you need patience to beat it. You can use Durga lightning charge attacks or Sharuba attacks when you can. You can also regain health off of Golem pretty easily from taunting. His moves are very predictable.

Your last chance of regaining health is the 7th battle of Verse 5. After that you are basically on your own. You want to go into verse 8 with a full magic gauge and full health. The 8th battle is against 3 x Glorious. They are fast fuckers and are always on your ass. You can try to fight all 3 of them at once with your butterflies or you can use the Bracelet of Time to go into witch time and kill one of them right away. 2 of these guys is way more manageable. You can beat them by running around in panther form and using Sharuba punch kick (dodge offset) punch. If you take damage, don’t worry about it too much because you can beat the next two battles fairly easily without taking any damage.  You can also kill them using the air rotate left stick punch move with Rodin.

The 9th battle in Verse 5 is against 3 x Jeanes. This is where Pillow Talk and a little exploit comes in handy. As long as the camera is not facing them (your back is turned to them and you are looking in the opposite direction) they will not attack. They will just walk towards you. Pull out Pillow Talk and fully charge it. While holding punch do the dodge offset panther morph and run in the center of them and release punch. Immediately turn back into panther form and run to the other side of the map. Make sure you are not facing them again. Rinse and repeat and you will kill all 3 of them without taking damage.

The 10th battle in Verse 5 is against Bayonetta. She has 4 (or 5, I can’t remember) health bars. You can use the same tactic that you used against the 3 x Jeanes to kill her.

Kilgore Bug

During your fights you can choose to use this glitch. Some people consider it cheating.

With the default setups I posted earlier, you do the 4 x punch combo with the Sharuba and then press kick. Right as the kick (5th hit of the combo) is being executed, switch your weapons (using LT on the xbox) so that Kilgore is on your feet. The 5th hit will do a kick but launch a ton of missiles.

C6 Corvette CAGS Disconnect Plug Install

December 1st, 2009

A month or so ago me and my friend installed the CAGS disconnect plug that I ordered from TKO performance. The part was $20.

The CAGS disconnect plug overrides the 1st to 4th shifter on the manual transmissions of the C6 Corvette. The 1st to 4th shifter was implemented by GM to try and avoid the gas guzzler tax on some of their vehicles. At a certain speed/RPM band in first gear, the shifter will close second and slide into 4th when you shift down. It’s really annoying and is easily overridden with this part. Below is an installation video.

Tools used:
10mm socket
2 1/4 ton jack + block of wood
2 x 2 ton jack stands

It took about 25-30 minutes.

At the end of the video I said that the 1st-4th indicator light didn’t come on. It didn’t in that shot, but that could have been because I was accelerating too quickly. When I was driving home, I saw the light come on, but I was still able to shift into second so the install was a success.

Here is the part:
